"A core group of exhibitors at our ASD show saw an opportunity for a liquidation show, especially at this time," says Christopher McCabe, VP of Nielsen Business Media's merchandise group. "We decided to explore the possibility and determined that it was very viable."
"It's specifically serving buyers and sellers specializing in retail liquidation and closeouts," he adds. "This is primarily a regional show, although we won't turn away buyers and exhibitors from outside Southern California."
The trade only show will cover approximately 30,000 square feet and include more than 150 exhibitors. They offer merchandise in virtually all product categories and deal exclusively in excess inventory, bankruptcy proceedings and discounted general merchandise.
"There's a lot of inventory available," notes McCabe, "and in these economic times retailers need to keep product on their shelves, but also have to be careful with their spending." This show will be price driven, according to McCabe, giving retailers an opportunity to buy at especially low costs and, in turn, offer good value to their consumers, who are also looking for bargains.
Among the ASD exhibitors that have committed to Liquidation Expo are: CloseoutCentral.com, Kole Imports, Four Seasons General Merchandise, 26 California Bazaar, Concord Enterprises, Global Gift Corp., United Pacific Distributors, Regent Products, Leon Korol & Co., C.W.C. Inventories, Libra Wholesale, Selective Imports, Max's Wholesale and others.
"We are confident that by bringing these and many other qualified exhibitors together in the important domestic and international business hub of Southern California, Liquidation Expo will consolidate this historically fragmented market," says McCabe. The selection of California was somewhat influenced by the location of suppliers that first suggested the need for such a show, he says.
"It made the most sense to hold it in Southern California. We'll see how this goes. No doubt there may be opportunities to host such a show elsewhere."
Attendance is free to qualified buyers who register by June 6. On site registration is $10 for qualified buyers. The show is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, June 7 and 8 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.
