Retailers from across the country participate. "Anyone can bid live and online, just as if they were actually there," Peckham says.
Retailers buy by the case, pallet or truckload. The merchandise covers virtually all product categories, from tools and general merchandise to apparel, consumer electronics and furniture and motorcycles. It includes closeouts, discontinued items, customer returns and first quality merchandise.
A&W begins loading photos and descriptions of contents a week ahead of each auction, so retailers can preview the products. "We generally begin with about 500 lots and work up to about 1,000 lots by the day before an auction," Peckham says. The auction process allows dealers to buy at very competitive prices.
Auctions are usually held every other Sunday; however, Peckham advises retailers to check the website for exact dates. Over the major holiday weekends, for example, the day might be shifted to a weekday to allow more dealers to participate.
Dealers are also invited to attend the warehouse during the live auctions. And whether they're on site or online, A&W arranges shipping and does all the required paperwork to make the process smooth and easy.
