"When a truckload arrives at our warehouse, we separate items for auction," he says. The auctions are held in the warehouse and online every Wednesday, beginning at 1 p.m. Pacific Time, and Peckham says they often last until 11 p.m. or midnight. Merchandise is sold by the item, case or pallet, and cases or pallets may be of a particular category or mixed. "We provide as much information as we have on the items," Peckham says, "and we let bidders know if they're bidding on new goods, returns or salvage."
There's no reserve or minimum. "Bids start at a penny a piece," Peckham says. Bidding is live and real time, "and lots go to the highest bidder; once, twice, sold!," he explains. As for wholesale pricing, Peckham says, "it's way, way below regular wholesale, virtually pennies on the dollar." More than 250 bidders participate in the auctions every week.
"The business has grown a lot, especially in the past two years," Peckham reports. Not only are more and more retailers looking for great prices and good value to offer their customers, but also more, and a wider range of merchandise, has become available.
