Named after their two sons, Blayden and Brichon, now ages 15 and 11, the company began producing a line of unique frames and albums that are infused with razzle dazzle, shine, color and fun. The line now encompasses notebooks, girl's room décor, hats, purses and tote bags, all in the spirit of the company's first products.
In addition to being fashion forward and fun, they are also designed to be affordable at retail price points of approximately $9.99 to $19.99 or less. The frames and albums are trimmed with beads and sparkle, employ cute cutouts, and some have endearing sayings across them.
Among the top sellers are room décor items such as calendars and a Wonderwalls collection. These are primarily EVA foam boards that come with a dry erase marker that allows someone to post their own words and reminders. In one example, the cutouts spell "Spoiled."
Colorful newsboy caps have polka dots. There are doggie pillows and star shapes, too. "Each item must appeal to girls and women with that great sense of style," Todd Jones says. "Tamara sees trends in Italy and New York and translates them into unique designs, that filled with color and shine, have a sense of enthusiasm and are fashion forward, but not super risky."
While the company clearly has its eye on the Tween market, Jones says it has also gained a following among women of all ages, especially for its frames and notebooks. There are currently approximately 100 different stock keeping units available, and a few new items are added each quarter.
The company has aligned with 13 different manufacturers in China. The Jones' have developed relationships with these suppliers and exercise strict design, manufacturing and quality control standards.
Blaychon will add approximately eight to 10 different stationery designs this year, and is also adding more room accessories. New colors and textures are also on the drawing board, as is the development of point of purchase displays.
The company requires a minimum order of $100, and it can contain a mix of products. In addition, Blaychon has a series of six different packages. One album package contains 22 top sellers, for a wholesale price of $82.50, with suggested retail of $220, while another contains 28 best sellers for a wholesale of $106 and a return of $280.
Similar packages of best sellers are available for frames, the EVA décor designs, and Fab Faux, which is a collection of hats, bags and whimsical pillows. The wholesale pricing on packages represents a 10 percent discount from the individual wholesale pricing.
Retailers ordering any two packages get free shipping, and so do all orders above $250. The company has outgrown its 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse and is moving into double that space this year. Its policy is, "Guaranteed in stock and out the door in one to three days," on all packages.
