Colorful, unique accessories make great holiday gifts, especially when they offer retailers outstanding profit margins. Some of the hottest new merchandise this season includes versatile hand cut scarves, shiny hair products and twinkling rhinestone jewelry, and jingle jangle hip scarves, all of which dress up anyone's bottom line.
Curly Q Original's product line consists of scarves designed, hand-cut and handmade in the USA by an Arizona mom eager to economically accessorize her four daughters. Tory Bolander launched her company one year ago with a line of frilly, ruffled feminine scarves that suit both casual and dressy occasions, "Because every woman deserves to look and feel beautiful." Bolander explains, "With the Arizona heat, we're in T-shirts a lot, and I was playing around with accessories for my daughters' T-shirts. I came up with the idea of lightweight scarves that would dress up casual T-shirts and be fun to wear." Bolander says she chose polyester because it is durable and can be washed and does not wrinkle or lose its shape. "I paired it with chiffon because it is a fabric that hangs beautifully," she continues.
Curly Q Original scarves can be worn by women of all ages and body types. Bolander adds, "My scarf is unique because it looks good on everybody. When I drape one around someone, they are floored by how pretty and elegant they are. That's a result of the combination of chiffon and my cutting techniques. The cutting technique is really important." There are about ten different ways Curly Q Original scarves can be worn, including around the neck, as a belt and to decorate a handbag. "They look super cute tied on the side of a purse," Bolander notes. In addition, scarves come with a separate tie, which can be used with the scarf or as a hairband. Curly Q Original scarves are available in 35 colors and designs. "The animal prints always sell extremely fast," Bolander reports. "In the spring, people like the bright colors and during the winter, the shimmery and sparkly fabrics sell extremely well." Wholesale price is $13 per scarf and retail starts at $26.99. The minimum order is 12 pieces.
Curly Q Original scarves have been selling well in local boutiques and are now sold throughout the U.S. To support expanding sales, Curly Q Original recently launched a wholesale website. "We've made it easy for customers to see the entire product line and to place orders," Bolander points out. Buyers can register online, and all their information is stored for easy ordering. Buyers can choose from shipping options and sign up for promotional materials and sales. In addition, the website has a demo video of different ways to wear the Curly Q Original scarf.
While Curly Q Original is known for selling one chic accessory, BH Wholesale Inc., located in Brooklyn, NY, is a distribution, manufacturing and wholesale company that offers many products and accessories, such as bed sheets, apparel, and lingerie, including Playboy branded garments. With the company's wide array of styles, merchandise quickly comes and goes. "I just received more styles of kids' hair accessories," says Karen Walton, owner. "The hottest sellers right now are the Karina hair accessories." These retail from $4 to $8 and can be bought wholesale for as little as $.36 each, shipping included, on the company's website. "They are especially popular during the holiday season but are always a great gift," she states. "Some of my newest items are hair products such as shampoos, conditioners and hair gels," Walton shares. "The hair products are salon quality and a great deal." BH Wholesale's hair products sell for $2 each and retail for $9.50 to $18.95. "I'll be getting in some rhinestone jewelry that will be great for the holidays, but can be used for any special event," Walton adds.
Customer service is very important at BH Wholesale. "I like to get to know my customers," Walton stresses. "I ask for a phone number so I can talk with a customer personally and let him or her know I received the order and when it will ship. I like to follow up to see if customers have any questions or concerns, and most importantly, to thank them." BH Wholesale usually ships within two business days of receiving an order and gives customers tracking numbers so they can check delivery status. The company has its own facilities to manufacture clothing domestically and there are no minimum orders. To give customers an opportunity to see products up close, as well as receive personal service, BH Wholesale has a showroom on Fashion Avenue in New York City and warehouses in Brooklyn and New Jersey.
To service customers who cannot visit its showroom, BH Wholesale has a website so it can offer quick deals and get its products to stores faster. The company offers free shipping anywhere in the contiguous U.S. "This makes it easier for our customers to see what a great deal our products are without having to figure out shipping costs," Walton explains. "I accept PayPal and credit cards and customer information is safe on our secure server." Because online access is important to sales, the more ways to funnel customers to a website, the better. Therefore BH Wholesale also lists its company in WholesaleCentral.com's online wholesale directory and search engine. The directory connects retailers and buyers of wholesale products directly with wholesalers, manufacturers and distributors, as well as drop shippers, importers and other types of suppliers.
BellyScarf.com owner Vijay Harkishnani also recognizes the importance of a well designed website to promote his costumes, accessories, Zumba clothing and hip scarves. Harkishnani has been selling hip scarves since 2004, and began selling wholesale and online in 2009. "Wholesale has been a huge success for us, and our website is very important to sales," he reports. BellyScarf.com organizes its products by category, has a search feature, numerous colorful images, and customer reviews. For a sensual touch, the site also hosts video demos of Zumba fitness class participants and belly dancers performing with hip scarves.
Hip scarves are wildly popular fashion accessories for Zumba fitness, as well as for the centuries-old belly dance, Harkishnani reveals. "Zumba fitness is very hot right now. More than five million people do Zumba every day." Available in 32 colors, each scarf is five feet long and has 158 coins "They are really pretty and jingle when you move," he points out. "They are made of chiffon and that's a great fabric for working out or dancing. People tend to sweat during these activities and chiffon is like silk, which doesn't hold water." Hip scarves are great holiday gifts, Harkishnani adds, because they are one size fits all and reasonably priced. "Red will be popular for holiday sales." Hip scarves wholesale for around $6 and retail for $19.95 to $24.95. While hip scarves are the hottest-selling of BellyScarf.com's over 700 products, other popular items are body tattoos, bracelets, costumes, arm cuffs and ankle bracelets. Belly Scarf ships orders within 24 hours and there is no minimum order. The company offers free shipping on orders of $150 or more and has a 100-day money back guarantee on any of its products for any reason. Accessories that jingle, jangle and rock, are giving independent retailers myriad holiday merchandise options. Add to that the ease of online shopping and buying, great customer service including free shipping, and a money back guarantee, 'tis absolutely the season to be jolly.
